A campaign communication first

by Chris Lato

You have to hand it to the Barack Obama campaign: they have consistently shown they know how to use current communication technology to their advantage.

Rumors that John McCain was going to make his VP announcement via carrier pigeon went unanswered by the McCain campaign. (JK!)

There will come a time when something like this isn’t news anymore, but right now it is – and it’s a pretty interesting way to appeal to the younger set. How many of them will have any knowledge of Obama’s running mate is a different issue entirely.

It’s a simple way to keep those supporters hooked in, feeling special, feeling involved in the important stuff going on in the Obama campaign – and from that perspective it is smart.

It is also, as the article points out, another way to round up contact info for potential Obama voters, volunteers and contributors – and from that perspective, it is very smart.
