Great minds think alike
by Chris Lato
Milwaukee talk radio’s afternoon chieftain Mark Belling has a new column up about the potential for Jim Doyle to cut bait and head for D.C. if Barack Obama is elected President.
Great minds think alike (Lato blogged with great humility).
Prospective Republican candidates for governor may want to brush up on their Barbara Lawton opposition research, just in case.

Doyle, Barrett likely staying put
by Dennis A. Shook
When Bill Clinton was elected president in 1992, few people could predict that it would have such a major impact on Wisconsin politics. Yet it did.
Clinton immediately appointed then-U.S. Rep. Les Aspin, D-Wis., chairman of the powerful House Armed Services Committee, to be his Secretary of Defense. That left the Congressional seat that Aspin had in his pocket open for someone else. That someone else was then-state Rep. Peter Barca, D-Kenosha, which in turn left his legislative seat open upon his election to the House. The current state Assembly Minority Leader – and possible future Assembly Speaker – Jim Kreuser was then elected to take over Barca’s seat in a special election. Talk about your domino effect and lasting impact on the political landscape.

The Doyle-Obama connection
by Chris Lato
OK, let me state for the record this is speculation and nothing but.
With that in mind, play along with me for a minute: why did Gov. Jim Doyle and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett endorse Barack Obama so early? Other than what they will say for the record (Obama is inspiring, the new JFK, etc.), do they have designs on potential appointments in an Obama Administration?
